I'm not gonna lie, me and gaga didn't get along when we were first introduced. When her first album, The Fame, came out I thought of her as just another run-of-the-mill upstart pop star that happened to be getting attention, but will eventually fade away in like, a year or so. There were plenty of times that I've said to my friends that I hated gaga's music and I just wasn't a fan. Ohhh, how wrong and naive I was..
Just as fast as how gaga changed her image from a stereotypical pop singer to the mother monster I love now, my opinion changed about her instantaneously. When she was finally done with the whole 'get my foot in the door' type of pop songs in The Fame and showed her real persona in The Fame Monster, I just fell in love. All her songs, her music videos, and her artist interpretations was just so true, so raw - sooo.. real. Gaga never needed the blaring lights and flashy effects to capture our attention; it was just her REAL self, performing her heart out like a person who just didn't give a f**k about reputation, sales quotas, and a status quo self-image.
Finally, when the music video for Bad Romance came out, I knew I was hooked on gaga and proudly claimed myself as a little monster to all my friends. We can all get into the artistic and metaphorical representations in Bad Romance, but I'd be lying to myself if I said my geek mind could even understand all that stuff. My change of faith to gagalupe was quite simple; Truth be told, I had COMPLETE respect and admiration for gaga the moment she did her infamous hand motion of jacking off her invisible shaft all up in our faces in that music video; Mmhmm. I don't know what it was about that massive hand stroke that spoke to me, not to mention all those other crotch grabs.. but I knew then that gaga dgaf and she just does whatever the f**k she wants and how she wants it.
